Welcome to The Grapes
Right in the heart of Oxford Street, just a stone’s throw from the docks, you’ll find one of Southampton’s most iconic pubs. The Grapes isn’t just a great spot for a pint — it’s a local legend. With its rich maritime history, famously close ties to the Titanic, and a relaxed, no-fuss vibe, The Grapes has been welcoming drinkers, travellers, and sports fans since 1855.
Step through our doors and you’ll be met with a blend of old-world character and modern-day energy. From the warm interior and original Victorian features to the hum of Sky Sports, music, and laughter drifting out into the courtyard, this is a pub with soul. You’ll find locals and visitors alike enjoying everything from a quiet pint to a buzzing matchday crowd — and if you’re lucky, a sighting of Bongo, our resident pub cat.
The Grapes holds a unique place in history. On the morning of April 10, 1912, three young crew members of the Titanic — the Slade brothers — stopped here for a final drink. Delayed by a passing train, they missed the ship’s departure. Their twist of fate saved their lives and left The Grapes forever linked to one of the world’s most enduring stories. That moment has since been featured in documentaries and walking tours across the city.
Today, The Grapes is just as full of life. We’ve got a great selection of drinks including local ales, craft favourites, and classic lagers on draught — plus a bomb shot menu that’s earned a bit of a cult following. Soft drinks, wines, spirits, and even dog snacks are all stocked behind the bar. If you’re into football, we’ve got you covered with Sky Sports and TNT Sports on screens inside and out, plus a pool table if you fancy a game.
Our courtyard has outdoor TVs, heaters, and music — ideal for those sunny afternoons or cooler evenings with a pint in hand. We’re also just a short walk from St Mary’s Stadium, so on home game days, expect a cracking atmosphere, friendly banter, and the buzz of a true matchday local. Happy hours and regular live events keep the calendar full and the mood high.
Planning to stay the night? We’ve got a few comfortable rooms upstairs — perfect for cruise passengers, weekenders, or anyone who doesn’t fancy the walk home. You’re welcome to bring takeaway food back to your room, and we highly recommend local spots like Miss Pita or Pizzeria Fratelli just down the road.
At its heart, The Grapes is a place for stories, memories, and good company. Whether you’re here for the history, the game, the beer, or just a friendly face — come be part of it.
